In 2020 it is estimated that around 67.8 million tons of waste, and it is estimated that in 2050 the composition of plastic waste will more than double to 35% of our total waste generation. The issue of waste has also come to the attention of the government especially in tourist destination areas. Cleanliness of tourist destinations can be a factor to increase the level of tourist arrivals by offering clean facilities and adding value to Indonesia's tourist attractions.
HPSN 2020 is aimed at inviting all parties to realize the same steps and concerns, so hopefully the momentum of the National Waste Care Day 2020 can be a catalyst and a medium of national synergy to increase the positive impact and improve the quality of waste management in Indonesia.
The implementation of the 2020 National Waste Care Day was conducted in 5 tourist destinations, namely in the Lake Toba Area, Labuan Bajo, Borobudur Area, Mandalika Beach and Likupang Beach with the HPSN commemoration centered in Labuan Bajo City, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara Province on March 6 2020
The appointment of the City of Labuan Bajo as the location of the 2020 HPSN implementation is because this place has become a priority tourist area launched by the President some time ago.
For waste management, the government has built a management facility in the form of an Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST) or Waste Management Recycling Center (PDU) with a capacity of 10 tons per day with the principle of sorting and reducing waste at the source. Complementing this facility is also given as many as 8 units of garbage motorcycles, 60 units of thematic bins, construction of Final Processing Sites (TPA), Escavator, Armrolls, and the surrender of 40,000 tree seedlings.
